Hemi Rehman

 

Schooled and raised in the oPt, Bangladesh, England and India, Hemi Rehman lives and works in Wānaka, New Zealand. He is an active member of the local community, serving as a volunteer fire fighter with the Wānaka Fire Brigade and as the representative of the United Fire Brigade's Association (UFBA). 

 

His current professional focus is on community development within the not-for-profit sector. He is currently employed as the Welcoming Communities Coordinator for the Upper Clutha by the Queenstown-Lakes District Council (QLDC) and is responsible for leading the Council in the delivery of the Welcoming Communities programme

 

Hemi is soon to complete a master's degree in international development at Massey University in which he is researching the issue of gender and patriarchy in the occupied Palestinian territory through a lens of masculinity. This builds on research he has undertaken in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem (December 2023) with Social Development Consulting, and on development and humanitarian work in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka with international NGOs.
